Young Dons gear up for tough test today with a victory

Wimbledon's youngsters strike seven in friendly

25 September 2018

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s warmed up for today's Football League Youth Alliance Cup tie against league leaders Northampton with a friendly win.

Wimbledon's youngsters take on the Cobblers (12 noon kick-off at the training ground) on the back of a 7-0 victory against coaching company Kinetic Foundation.

First-half goals from David Fisher, Paul Osew and Zach Robinson earned a 3-0 half-time lead and there was no let-up from the young Dons after the interval with Jack Rudoni (pictured) expertly striking a free-kick into the top corner.

Fisher and Ayoub Assal combined to set-up number five for Robinson, who shortly afterwards completed his hat-trick with a powerful header. The scoring was rounded off when substitute Donte Lodge-Francis, who replaced Robinson, finished off clinically after a smart turn.

Assistant Manager James Oliver-Pearce said: "Following on from last week's player-led game, we wanted to ensure that the players were able to continue the process by arranging a friendly. We recognise that by no means did last week's game resolve anything, but what we are now beginning to see is a group of players taking more responsibility for their all-round development. It was a positive performance with some excellent individual and collective goals being achieved. This week we have two fixtures against a strong Northampton side that could possibly offer a different challenge, so it will be interesting to see whether the players will be able to adapt without Mark Robinson and myself having to talk them through the game."

Look out later on today for a match report from the game against Northampton.
