Ayoub Assal and Zach Robinson added to their impressive goal tallies, as the young Dons returned from a long trip to Devon with maximum points.

Assal (pictured), netted a hat-trick to reach eighteen goals and Robinson moved on to 27, following the under-18s 4-2 victory at Exeter City to remain unbeaten in Youth Alliance Merit League 1.

Wimbledon got off to a great start after winning a penalty within 30 seconds. Despite the Exeter goalkeeper saving Assal’s initial attempt, he reacted quickly to put away the follow up. Assal made it a double in the 10th minute, following a good move that resulted in Reece Weekes squaring the ball for the easiest of tap-ins. The Dons continued to go in search of a third with both Assal and Robinson going close.

However, it was Exeter who hit back though when the visitors failed to deal with a long ball. Despite the initial attempt being saved, Wilson reacted quickest to convert. It did not take long for the Grecians to get back on level terms when a misplaced pass was intercepted and finished well by Veale.

Although they were disappointed to go in level at the break, the young Dons showed good character and were back in front a minute into the second half. Assal turned provider to set-up Robinson, who finished from just inside the penalty area, as Wimbledon made another bright start to a half.

Less than three minutes later the young Dons restored their two-goal advantage, when an excellent ball released Robinson. The striker was brought down in the penalty area and Assal stepped up again to complete his hat-trick and converted into the corner. The Dons then went on to control majority of the second half, both in possession and with their out of possession shape.

Wimbledon’s under-18s continue their Merit League campaign at home to Southend United this Saturday.
