Wally: The squad are giving everything

Manager quick to look forward to home match against Wycombe Wanderers

Wally Downes praised the unity in his squad after last night’s superb fightback at Luton Town.

Speaking in his post-match interview after the dramatic 2-2 draw, our manager said: “The formation we’ve come up with makes it difficult to get some players into the team. Mitch is one of our highest goalscorers and leads in assists, but at the moment I can’t get him in the team. Dylan came on and had a big impact, but I can’t get him in the team. Shane has come on and played great for us, but I can’t get him in. Having said that, I haven’t got a problem with putting any of them in the team.

"The group of 18-20 players that I’ve got, the players we’ve been using for the last two months, they’ve bonded together, and they are giving me everything. Those players are going to go into Saturday’s game and I haven’t got a problem with any of them. I will disappoint some of them because I have to, but I haven’t got a problem with playing any of those 18-20 players.”

Wally Downes also spoke about the importance of building on last night’s encouraging result.

“Scoring in the last minute, we’ve got to take it forward. To be able to get that late equaliser was fantastic for the travelling fans. It’s going to be a sell-out on Saturday, last home game of the season. I’m sure if we work hard enough and we’re on the ball, that good things will happen and the result will come.”
