Advice from Glyn pushes Nesta in the right direction

Left-back on his Dons debut

Nesta-Guinness-Walker said that advice from Glyn Hodges helped him to make a favourable impression on his long-awaited league debut on Saturday.

The 19-year-old’s form at non league Met Police earned Nesta his big opportunity with The Dons and his attacking edge from left-back provided a key outlet in Wimbledon’s second-half fightback.

“It’s something I’ve developed since I came here, especially because Glyn has been pushing me on," said Nesta. "He's been telling me to be more direct in my attacking down the left flank and hopefully I can take that on. The chemistry in the squad has helped me to settle in. I’ve learned about the players around me and they now know more about my game as well, which does make it easier for me to take my opportunity.

“I thought the fight from last season was still there because we came back from 1-0 down to bring it level and I thought the boys did really well. We pushed on and we were on the front foot for most of the second-half. We will take the positives into the next few weeks and get some points on the board.”

It was a proud occasion for Nesta on Saturday as he made his Wimbledon bow in front of over 4,600 supporters and he’s very thankful for the opportunity.

“I was buzzing to get out there and I said thank-you to the manager for giving me the opportunity so early on in the season. I am happy to get the chance and hopefully there’s more to come.

“The gaffer told us at half-time to go out and get in their faces and I thought we did well to come back into it in the second-half. We pulled back a goal and I thought we were on top for most of the second-half, so it was just disappointing for the boys and the fans that we let it slip.

“I had quite a few come down to watch me with it being my debut and I could hear them in the crowd. It was nice for me to have friends and family watching. I thought the fans were excellent and I think it helped to give us that boost in the second-half. The crowd really got behind us and if we can keep that up for the rest of the season I think we will do well.”
