Will to return to training, but likely to miss Accrington

Team news: Nathan Trott comes into contention for Wimbledon

15 August 2019

Captain Will Nightingale will return to training with the squad tomorrow, but is unlikely to figure in Saturday’s home game as he recovers from a knee injury.

Goalkeeper Nathan Trott (groin) will come into contention for the match against Accrington Stanley, having come through a development game yesterday, but midfielder Anthony Wordsworth will remain on the sidelines for now.

“Will has got fairly good news from his scan,” said Wally Downes. “There’s nothing new that we need to know there. He was running yesterday and he’ll be joining in the football tomorrow, but it’ll probably come a little too early for him on Saturday.”

Wally is aiming to get Anthony Wordsworth (Achilles) fully involved, rather than risk rushing him back into action.

“We’re managing it,” said Wally. “It’s not long term. He’s desperate to play. The important thing is we don’t have him back too soon and it puts him back a couple of weeks. We want to get this done so that he’s capable of playing for the next month, three months, six months or nine months of the season.”
