Will edges closer to Sunderland return

Wally to check on captain's availability on Friday

22 August 2019

Wally Downes will find out on Friday if captain Will Nightingale will be in contention for his squad for the trip to Sunderland.

Nightingale has been building-up his fitness as he returns from a knee injury and played an active part in today's session at our New Malden training base.

"I'm hoping that they are going to give me the all-clear that Will is available to play some part," said Wally. "He's been out for quite a while now, since the first day of the season, so he maybe a little rusty and he may need a game. Will is the sort of boy who will want to get out there while he can."

Wally also confirmed that midfielders Ossama Ashley and Anthony Wordsworth are the only players not available for the game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

"We had a review of the Ipswich game this morning," said Wally. "We showed them the good and the bad bits. It's always good to clear the air. The team that played the majority of the game the other night didn't do as much as the rest of the squad. I took the rest of the players this morning and they worked very well."

You can see a full interview tomorrow with Wally Downes, ahead of the game against Sunderland. The best of this morning's action from the training ground is available to watch below, via the link to our official You Tube channel.
