At home with a Wimbledon great

We catch up again with the defender Wally called "Rock Nut"

7 February 2019

A trip to the North East wouldn’t have been complete for us without a visit to the home of a Sunderland-based Wimbledon great!

For nearly a decade during the 1980s, centre back Mick Smith played a prominent role in the rise of the Crazy Gang - from the Fourth to the First Division.

We caught up with the former defender, who Wally used to affectionately call "Rock Nut" for his strength at the back and "Walrus" for his trademark moustache!

Mick, who lives with his family in the picturesque Roker Beach area, came to AFC Wimbledon back in October 2015 for the launch of "The Crazy Gang" book. He also joined the Radio WDON commentary team, when they visited Hartlepool shortly before the Dons were promoted to League One.

Watch the full interview with Mick in our video below, via the link to our official YouTube channel, in which he gives his thoughts on former team mates Wally and Glyn, plus our return to Plough Lane.
