Defender makes surprise recovery in time for Walsall

Update for iFollow ahead of League One away match

11 February 2019

Glyn Hodges today confirmed that Terell Thomas is in contention for Tuesday’s game at Walsall after making a quicker than expected return from injury.

The defender came off injured towards the end of Saturday’s match at Burton and there were fears that he could be facing another injury lay-off. Our Assistant Manager also provided a positive update on James Hanson’s progress.

Speaking during an interview for iFollow, Glyn said: “Terell had cramp and a little bit of tightness in the groin. We did not expect him to train today, but he was out there looking fresh, he has recovered, and he’s ready to play. James is out there daily, running on the grass, and we are building up his fitness levels because it’s been quite a while out for him. He needs to come back and be ready to play a part. Fingers crossed, it will not be too long for James.”

Glyn added that Kwesi Appiah is doubtful for Tuesday’s match with the hamstring injury that he picked up against Burton.

Following Saturday’s home defeat against Burton, Glyn recognises the importance of the squad putting in a much-improved performance at Walsall on Tuesday night.

“The players owe the fans a performance, but they also owe it to themselves. People are scratching their heads after the FA Cup performances compared to the league performances, but it’s the same lads. They owe themselves a performance first and foremost and if they go about their business like we know they can, there will be no problems.

“Today, we’ve just been looking at different shapes and to maybe tweak things a little. It’s just new ideas and getting the players to express themselves and show some personality. When they cross that white line they need to put in a performance. We do everything to help the process and it was a case of that again, as we build towards a game.”
