Extra Special 12th Don

Introducing a remarkable fan

1 February 2019

Sue Painter, our official “12th Don” at the Barnsley game last month, joined us for a slice of pre-match hospitality to celebrate her remarkable recovery.

Sue was at our pre-season friendly against QPR back in July. After feeling unwell, Sue collapsed in the bar. Stewards Shahid Aziz and Rebekah Tennuchi reacted very quickly and were able to support and stabilise her, and Dr Will Ricketts performed lifesaving CPR on Sue until the paramedics arrived to save her life.

Sue atteneded the pre-match hospitality for the Barnsley game with her husband Bill, Dr Will and his father as a thank you for the part they played in keeping her alive. Huge thanks to Shahid, Rebekah and Dr Will – without their help, Sue would not be here, continuing to support the Dons.

“It was a shocking thing to see Sue in such a perilous state that day” added Ivor Heller.  “Along with the stewards, Pietro and I helped to look after Bill and spoke to Sue’s son to explain what was happening to his mother. Dr Will and the rest of the team saved Sue’s life – it was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. I can’t tell you the joy I felt when I was sitting on the team coach up at Fleetwood in August when Sue marched past the coach. Just three weeks before, I had watched her fighting for her life.”

We are so pleased you enjoyed your extra special Dons day out Sue, even if the result didn’t go our way this time!
