Steve Seddon: Gesture is a thank-you for ‘fantastic’ support

Full-back aims to reward the backing from Wimbledon fans

Steve Seddon has saluted the support from Wimbledon fans since his January arrival and the in-form left-back is determined to reward them with another important away win.

Wimbledon’s away following will be swelled at Shrewsbury on Saturday, thanks to an offer from the playing squad to fund supporters’ coaches for the trip, and on-loan Birmingham City full-back Seddon said it was the least they could do.

Seddon, who struck the winner at Walsall recently, said: “We had fantastic support at both Rochdale and Walsall. Sunderland was amazing too, but in the grand scheme of things this is just a small gesture from us. It means a lot though and it comes from a good place, from all the players. It’s just a thank you really and a ‘stick by us’ message to the supporters because we are doing our best.

“I think you could see in my celebration at Walsall that it was special to me. It proved something to myself and to the Wimbledon fans, who hadn’t really seen me play my best football. To score in that game proved to myself that I could do the same in League One as I did when I was at Stevenage and I could perform to a high standard, which I was happy with.

“I’m a believer that at 3.00 pm on a Saturday it’s a fresh start. You are only as good as your last game. Shrewsbury had a very good win against Doncaster on Tuesday night. It will be interesting and we can take confidence from the last game because we should have got something against Charlton, which came off the back of two league wins before that. We will take confidence from those performances and try to get the three points.”
