Dons sign goalkeeper on loan from Bournemouth

New signing for AFC Wimbledon will be added to the squad for Fleetwood

4 January 2019

AFC Wimbledon have moved quickly in the January transfer window to snap-up highly-rated England Under-21 goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan until the end of this season.

The 20-year-old has signed on loan from Premier League AFC Bournemouth and he will go straight into the Wimbledon squad for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Fleetwood Town.

Aaron was signed by the Cherries from Sheffield United in January 2017 after a promising rise through the youth ranks with England. A member of the national Under-19s squad that won the European Championships in 2017, Aaron stepped up to the Under-21s last summer when he featured for England in the Toulon Tournament.

Speaking about his signing, Wally Downes said: “Aaron is an England Under-21 goalkeeper and his distribution is terrific and so too is his shot-stopping. There are very few faults in his game and the way he is progressing he will be aiming for the England number one spot.”

Aaron, who started his career at Bolton Wanderers, was on the bench for Bournemouth’s final Premier League fixture of the 2016/17 season against Leicester City, but he spent the second half of the last campaign with Chesterfield.

Look out soon on the official website for an interview with Aaron about making the move to Wimbledon.
