Glyn believes Luke will add extra threat for Wimbledon

Reaction from Assistant Manager after pre-season victory

28 July 2019

Glyn Hodges praised the quality of Luke O’Neill’s goal at Hampton yesterday – and he believes his free-kicks can add an extra dimension for Wimbledon next season.

“It was a great free-kick from Luke, he’s got that," said Glyn. "Last season when we played Gillingham one of the things we told our players about was the free-kick that he had scored in the league. We are aware of that and that was one of the reasons why we signed Luke. If we get a free-kick in there we have a good chance. I think it’s an improvement on last season as we were not great at free-kicks from that distance, but it looks like we have a threat now.

“Every year you can’t stand still and you are always looking to improve. Obviously, some players have to go. We sold one with Toby leaving and good luck to him, so we had to replace him. You are always looking to evolve, to move forward, and improve, and hopefully the six signings will help us to move in that direction.

“It’s new for Callum (Reilly) to get to know the lads and how we play, but the good thing is that he has had a lot of minutes in pre-season at Gillingham. When you get someone from another club you are not sure where the player is physically, but I thought he showed up well and he looks like a good addition to the team.”
