Striker raring to go for start of new season

Michael Folivi in confident mood ahead of the big kick-off

Michael Folivi has wasted no time hitting the goal trail since making his return here and the on-loan Watford striker is confident about Wimbledon’s prospects for 2019/20.

The 21-year-old again looked sharp in the box last night with his two goals helping the Dons to a 3-1 win at Met Police and that makes it four so far during pre-season for Folivi.

Speaking afterwards, the striker said: “The start of the season is coming around fast! We have two more friendlies and I’m happy to get among the goals. I’m feeling sharp and confident. We have a good squad and it’s a versatile squad too. We had boys not involved in this game and youngsters coming in. Paul Osew came on at left-back and he was flying! With the way we ended last season, I’m confident, and ready to go again.”

Though The Dons needed goalkeeper Nathan Trott to keep out Met Police early on last night, Wimbledon took control after the first 20 minutes and Folivi believes that the squad is shaping up well with just 10 days until the new campaign.

“Nathan made two or three big saves and that was a bit of a wake-up call because they were a hungry side,” added Folivi. “We found our rhythm, created chances, and I managed to tuck a couple of them away. It was a good performance and we are just building up our minutes now. We’ve been away to Germany and Spain and we had hard training sessions in La Manga. The team bonding has come a long way now. We were away from our families and with the boys for 24 hours a day! Team bonding is vital and all these things you learn about each other can be a big benefit during a long season.

“Things that the manager wants are starting to be shown on the pitch. We’ve been working hard on the training pitch and you can see that it’s paying off. We are still trying to get that little bit of sharpness into our play, but we are getting there.”
