Wally Downes has praised James Hanson for his contribution to our Great Escape after the striker’s contract with AFC Wimbledon was cancelled by mutual consent.
The 31-year-old target man leaves us after almost a year at the club and we are thankful for the part he played in retaining Wimbledon’s League One status.
Wally Downes said: “James had an immediate impact when he returned after injury. He set-up Shane McLoughlin’s late goal in the important victory against Doncaster and scored twice at Scunthorpe. He was a really big part of it in the short space of time that I had him available. We certainly wouldn’t have stayed up without him.
“James is a great professional, but unfortunately I did not have him in the team for the maximum amount of games possible. His contribution when available was fantastic. I can only say that he will be a valuable asset to the next manager who gets him. We have a succession plan and we are following up loads of leads as we edge closer to bringing in another forward."
James started 22 matches for Wimbledon, making a further 12 substitute appearances, and he scored five goals, including a vital double at Scunthorpe United. All at AFC Wimbledon thank James for his contribution and we wish him well in his future career.
