AFC Wimbledon Under-23s today missed out on the opportunity to move up to third place in Central League South.
The young Dons were beaten 3-0 at Exeter City and coach Alan Reeves admitted afterwards that it was a deserved defeat. Though Alfie Egan (pictured) twice forced saves from the Exeter goalkeeper, the hosts had the better of it throughout and they were 2-0 up at half-time.
Following the match, Alan Reeves said: “Exeter fully deserved it, they were better than us on the day in all departments. We may have had better players than them, but that’s never enough. You can get away with two or three players having an off day, but not more than that. Though Exeter scored through one good goal, the other two we should have done better with. We worked hard, but when we got the ball we didn’t do enough with it. Full credit to Exeter as they played very well on the day. It’s a learning curve for us and we must do better.”
