A special Saturday for completely different reasons

A big thank-you to all those volunteers involved

25 May 2019

Three weeks since The Great Escape at Bradford and it was a completely different Saturday for around 30 Dons fans.

Supporters that have volunteered since the early days after AFC Wimbledon was reformed combined with young Dons to tidy up the stadium at the first close season clean-up weekend.

Volunteers got stuck into jobs that needed doing in the car park, including cutting back bushes and picking out weeds outside the Cherry Red Records Stadium, as well as getting on with work inside the ground.

It's another fans-led event that sums up why AFC Wimbledon is so special with a volunteer base that is the envy of many clubs.

The work weekends have been running since 2004 after a Stadium Management Group was set-up and the club thanks all those volunteers for helping out once again today. Chief Executive Joe Palmer was among those in attendance and he was quick to get his two sons involved in the clean-up!

The work weekend continues on Sunday between 9.30 am and 5.00 pm and more help will be very much appreciated, whether just for a few hours, or for longer.

The next stadium work weekend is on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June.

Look out early next week for a more extensive feature on the work weekend, including pictures.
