AFC Wimbledon’s summer schedule will include a friendly that will be remembered for years to come with Wally’s boys set to take on FC Kaiserslautern in Germany.
The match against the former Bundesliga Champions on 12 July (7.00 pm kick-off German time) will be held at the Weingarten Arena (not the main Kaiserslautern ground). It will be the first part of a German double-header with The Dons set to face Kickers Offenbach on 13 July (3.00 pm kick-off).
Following the home friendly matches against Brentford and Bristol City, the trip to Germany will provide an international flavour to Wimbledon’s pre-season schedule. FC Kaiserslautern are currently in the third tier of German football, but they still have an average home gate of 23,354 and boast a rich footballing heritage. Winners of the German Bundesliga back in 1997/98, Kaiserslautern have had a host of famous players in the past with Michael Ballack, Miroslav Klose, Andreas Brehme, and Hans-Peter Briegel having all played for the club.
Kickers Offenbach, based in Offenbach am Main, play in the Regional League South West (fourth tier) and the match will be held at the Sparda-Bank-Hessen Stadium.
