Seven-goal Finnish striker clinches Young Player of the Month award

Marcus Forss’ soaring start to his stay at Wimbledon has earned him further recognition, having been awarded the EFL Young Player of the Month for October.

The Finnish under-21 striker has found the net seven times, since his deadline-day loan move from Championship club Brentford, and Marcus has been quick to thank the support of those closest to him.

“It’s a very special accolade, to be fair,” said Marcus. “It’s not just an award for me; it’s for the team’s efforts as well. Obviously without the team I wouldn’t be able to get the award, so I have to say a massive thanks to the players and staff as well – thank you very much!

“It’s a very good club. The players have helped me come into the group so well, so it’s been easy for me to come into the group and be myself really. That’s massive for me, so I can do my own thing and obviously the players know what I can do and that gives me massive confidence as well.

“When I was 13, I had a chance to move to England and my Mum and Dad had to move with me. That’s a massive sacrifice from my family, which I can only thank them for as well. They believed in me at such a young age that I could become a professional footballer, but I have a football family and they understood that this was a risk we could take.

“I put in a lot of hours growing up. More hours probably on the football pitch than at home! It’s been a tough journey, but it’s getting the rewards now and I just need to keep going, playing and performing.”

Marcus is now focused on adding more goals during his stay with Wimbledon, as we gear up for a tough away match at Bloomfield Road on Saturday against eighth-placed Blackpool.

“We have to play well as a team,” said Marcus. “We need to win games to get that League One status confirmed and then we can push on to even higher. Personally, I need to keep scoring, playing and performing.

“It’s a family club and quite like Brentford as well and I’m used to that. I love that family feeling and it makes you feel everything is close and trustworthy and that’s a nice feeling to have.”
