Luke sets his sights on big battles ahead after vital win

Right-sided duo reflect on victory over their previous club

Luke O’Neill believes the manner of victory against Gillingham will give the squad renewed confidence for the big battles ahead.

“The confidence is a bit higher now and we can take that into Bolton,” said Luke in an extensive interview at the training ground.

"I like the games coming thick and fast and when it's intense. We have a break, but we'll be ready to go against Bolton.

“Sometimes those wins are better. It was quite scrappy; there were a few blocks and challenges flying about. We defended really well and sometimes it feels a bit better when we do perform like that and get the win.”

Luke’s right-sided partner Scott Wagstaff added: “It was a great feeling, especially against your old club when you want to do well and prove a point. Wearing the captain’s arm band as well was nice.

“We work a lot on the switch of play. It was a scrappy game with the second balls, but the one bit of quality we had we made sure that we performed it well. It was a great pass from ‘Pins’ (Mitch Pinnock) and it was nice to see it hit the back of the net.”

Luke and Scott were talking as part of our in-depth interview with the former Gills duo, who have teamed up again to great effect for Wimbledon. You can see the full interview later in the week.
