Wally seeks a ‘complete’ performance against Shrewsbury

Manager's interview before Saturday's home match

13 September 2019

Wally Downes has called on his players to show more resolve in search of that elusive first victory of the season.

The Dons host mid-table Shrewsbury on Saturday with our manager wanting his side to show more of the steel that was in evidence during last season’s Great Escape.

Speaking during his pre-match interview ahead of tomorrow’s home game, Wally said: “Although I’m not happy with the fact we haven’t won, I’ve been pleased with the chances and opportunities to have won games. I’m certainly not worried by the way we are playing. Of course, I want us to play better and I want us to start scoring goals and we’ve got to eliminate the mistakes at the other end. It’s about us being strong. There was a hardness about us in those last 12 games last season. It’s a different team that we are building this season, so that’s going to come. The quicker that we are stronger with each other and the quicker we gel as a group, the better it will be for us in terms of moving forward and results.

“I’ve been very pleased with lots of aspects of our play so far this season, but we’ve managed to find ways of losing games, either through individual errors or just not getting the job done late in the game. I’ve been saying to the players that we’ve got to piece things together now and get the complete performance because we need to start winning. I’m sure that once we get our first win we can start climbing the table. We’ve been competitive in every game and it was only the Sunderland match when we were out of it for the last 15 minutes. In every other game when we’ve been beaten it’s been the odd goal.”

As mentioned previously, new loan signings Marcus Forss, Max Sanders, and Ryan Delaney are all in contention to make their home debuts on Saturday. Watch the rest of Wally’s squad update below and cheer on The Dons by snapping up a ticket for the game. You can buy now from our online ticket shop.
