Wimbledon managerial great pledges support as project moves into Wandsworth

Fantastic work in the community by the Dons Local Action Group

13 April 2020

Wimbledon's managerial great Dave Bassett has a long association with our club and he has today shown his support for the Dons Local Action Group.

Dave, who created history in the 1980s by guiding Wimbledon from the old Fourth Division to the top flight, praised the community effort in a message posted from the Dons Local Action Group's Twitter account.

“I was at Wimbledon for 14 years, including as a player, Assistant Manager, and Manager (from 1981 until 1987). We had some magical and great times during that period, but I’m now offering my thanks and support to the Dons Local Action Group and all the individuals and companies that have supported it.”

The Dons Local Action Group has now expanded its valuable work into the borough of Wandsworth after making a big difference in Merton and Kingston since it was set-up three weeks ago. A group of volunteers have been helping stranded individuals and families to tackle the coronavirus crisis by supplying vital food boxes to those in need. If you'd like to join our community champions then please e-mail: DLA@afcwimbledonfoundation.org.uk or call 020 3301 4511. If you'd like to help out from further afield, a JustGiving page for the Dons Local Action Group has been set-up.
