Watch Wimbledon supporter Lerrone continue his bid to become World Champion

4 December 2020

Wimbledon supporter Lerrone Richards is finally back in the ring for a big fight tonight – and he has stuck to his promise to get the Dons badge on his shorts!

Lerrone, who was crowned British super-middleweight champion in 2019, visited us with his belts last season, but he’s had to wait patiently for his next fight as he continues his bid to reach the top. Finland’s Timo Laine is Lerrone’s opponent in a fight at the SSE Arena, Wembley, which features on the undercard of the Sanders versus Murray bill (from 7.00 pm on Sky Sports Main Event).

Lerrone unveiled his new-look shorts on the Matchroom Boxing Twitter account. His black and yellow shorts are a tribute to his hero Muhammad Ali and his famous ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee’ quote. As well as showing support for the NHS on his shorts, Lerrone showed off our club badge with the words, ‘Not forgetting Wimbledon – big up the Dons!’

Speaking to our official website earlier this year, Lerrone said: “I couldn’t ask for a better club to follow. My dream now, and I keep talking about it, is for me to fight for a version of the world title at Plough Lane. That would be amazing, so I hope that football comes through in the future and I get a chance to fight at Wimbledon’s home. I previously trained at Earlsfield Amateur Boxing Club, which is just around the corner from Plough Lane, so it would be a dream come true for me.”

All at AFC Wimbledon wish Lerrone the best of luck for tonight.
