French winger Julien Lamy wasted no time impressing the management and coaching staff on his first full day as a Wimbledon player.
“I’m here to work hard for the team, the fans and the manager,” said Julien who is pictured at the training ground with Glyn Hodges after meeting his new team mates.
“Friday (Deadline Day) was a really long day. I was asked if I was ready to go and play for Wimbledon. I was happy fighting for my place at Rotherham, but I knew that I could come and help this team. I was happy to do that.
“The manager spoke to me about my pace and what I can give to the team – something different. I’m here to show that and what I can do. I’ve had a good welcome; there are really nice people and really nice staff here. The training was good and let’s see what happens in the next few days.”
Assistant Manager Nick Daws spoke in glowing terms of Julien, who has joined us on loan from League One rivals Rotherham United for the rest of the season.
“He’s an incredible talent,” said Nick “He lit up the place today in training. He caused the young full-backs a few problems! Fundamentally, I think he fits into what an AFC Wimbledon player should look like – and that’s giving one hundred per-cent. He certainly gives that!
“I know the guys up at Rotherham. I spoke to John Breckin, who I’ve known for years and who was my Assistant Manager many moons ago. I spoke to Paul Warne and Rob Scott, both who I played with, and they told me that we’re getting a player you’ve got to keep the reins on! He’ll give you one hundred and fifty per-cent! You’ve got to make sure he doesn’t overdo it.
“It was an opportunity for us to take him and bring some variety to the squad. He can play in the wide areas, which give us flexibility, and also play off a striker.”
