Glyn: We apologise to the fans

Manager's post-match reaction at Oxford

18 February 2020

Glyn Hodges said that Wimbledon’s performance at Oxford United simply wasn’t good enough and it was an away display that let the supporters down.

A total of 380 Dons supporters were in attendance at the Kassam Stadium and Glyn expressed his disappointment for them and all our fans afterwards.

“Normally, we are thanking the fans, but tonight we are apologising to the fans as that wasn’t good enough. The fans were loud, the support was tremendous, and hopefully we can change it around at the weekend.

“I’m really disappointed. We’ve let down the travelling fans, it was not a performance that we seen coming. It’s an eye-opener, a wake-up call, and it tells us that you can’t rest on your laurels. We have to be at it in every game, which we know, and it wasn’t to be today.

“They had wave after wave of attacks and we didn’t have any answers. We tried to change the formation a couple of times to help the boys, but it didn’t help. I still cannot get my head around it. One thing is for sure, we have to get it out of our system and move on to Saturday.”

Our manager added that his squad produced a performance that was in stark contrast to recent matches and he will be looking for answers as to why that was the case.

“We stick together as we are a group. We didn’t have the same energy levels that we had for the three previous games. That’s something for us to look into. For us to perform at this level, our energy and work-rate has to be higher than the opposition. That’s what we try to do, but we were very flat today.

“I was more than happy with the team we picked. Sometimes you come here and you have to impose yourselves a little bit more and then the system would work. We were not able to do that, but credit to them as they are a good side. How they are not top of the league, I don’t know. They are massively under-achieving. If you have an off-day here you will get put to the sword.”
