Glyn’s update on Nathan Trott

Manager also announces that Joe McDonnell has left Wimbledon

1 February 2020

Glyn Hodges has confirmed that Nathan Trott is staying with AFC Wimbledon after the close of the transfer window and he will be in our squad for the game at Accrington Stanley today.

Nathan will continue his loan spell with us after joining from West Ham last summer and our manager believes that he will bring good competition for the number one spot with Joe Day having signed for Wimbledon earlier this week.

“We are delighted that Nathan is able to stay,” said Glyn. “On Monday when we signed Joe Day, a couple of things could have happened. Nathan could have gone back to West Ham and moved to another club on loan, or he could have helped out with their own goalkeeping situation. He missed the game on Tuesday as we thought something would happen, but he has come back and told us that he wants to fight for his place. With Nathan and Joe, we have two top goalkeepers at an important stage of the season.”

Glyn added that Joe McDonnell has now left AFC Wimbledon in search of first-team football elsewhere.

“With Nathan staying, we felt we couldn’t stand in Joe’s way as he seeks a first-team opportunity at another club,” said Glyn. “Joe had an offer from another club and we hope it works out for him. Joe was brilliant around the place during his time with Wimbledon, he is a great professional, and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Joe first joined us back in 2014 and he made 34 first-team appearances for Wimbledon. He rejoined us in time for the start of this season after leaving us at the end of 2018/19. All at AFC Wimbledon thank Joe for his contribution during his two spells with us.
