Full-back links up with a Wimbledon hero in Ireland

Kyron Stabana joins Cork City on loan

27 January 2020

Kyron Stabana will embark on a new challenge in Ireland after signing a loan deal until the summer with Cork City.

It will mean that Wimbledon's full-back will link-up with our former defender Alan Bennett, who is still revered here for the part he played in helping us to stay in the league in 2013.

Kyron had been set to join Tamworth on loan earlier this month, before he was offered an opportunity by a club that have won the League of Ireland Premier Division on three occasions. Alan Bennett was recently appointed to a new position as player-coach at his hometown club and he will be aiming to help Kyron's development during the rest of this season.

Speaking about the loan deal, Mark Robinson explained: "As everyone is aware, Kyron had the opportunity to go to Tamworth, but very late on there became an opportunity for Kyron to go to Cork City. After a very lengthy conversation with Alan Bennett and feeding that information back to Kyron, it become clear that Cork was a challenging and fresh opportunity for Kyron. It was one he was keen to take.

"The player's future development is always the key factor, so this is the option we had to go with. Tamworth were very understanding with the change in situation and we are grateful for that. I would like to think Kyron's move to Cork City will help us build a relationship with Cork City that could be very fruitful for both clubs in the future. It could give some of our best young talent the chance to develop in a challenging games programme, as well as in a professional coaching environment."

Kyron has made three first-team appearances for us and all at AFC Wimbledon wish him every success during his loan spell at Cork City.
