Farewell to Laura after scaling the heights for the Dons!

Laura's story sums up what our great community initiative is all about

22 July 2020

Following 14 weeks of hard work for the Dons Local Action Group, Laura Cook has bid farewell to the team - and scaled the 'baked beans tower' for the final time!

Laura was one of the first to feature in our series on Dons Local Action Group volunteers - and she leaves us with her beloved Leeds United as Champions!

On her departure, she sent a lovely message to her fellow volunteers in the group and this is published below:

Dear lovely team,

As a fair few of you now know, today marks my departure from what's been a wonderful fourteen weeks at DLA Kingston - eleven in charge of the hub - and every day bringing a fresh load of challenges, rewards and moments of hilarity.

Thank you all for your kindness this week after I explained my reasons for moving on, for your gifts and cards and most of all, for your unwavering commitment to my shoutouts and instructions over the last few months. You've all inspired and continue to inspire me, and I know I will look back on this period for years to come when I need reminding that people power can make anything possible.

I will leave you with a photo of me doing my favourite thing - a nimble, relevant and efficient scaling of the baked beans tower - and with the words of Marcelo Bielsa: 'Hacer todo como si fuera tu única oportunidad.'

Love to you all, Laura.

In case you missed it, read our previous article on Laura.

The latest Dons Local Action Group newsletter included a message that said: "Laura Cook finished this week after heroically leading the Kingston team since she joined. Her work-rate and commitment was incredible, and we will miss her greatly."

Can you help the Dons Local Action Group to continue its fantastic work? If so, please get in touch by contacting 020 3301 4511 or e-mail DLAGvolunteer@afcwimbledonfoundation.org.uk . Let us know how you would prefer to help, or the DLAG will put you where you are most needed.
