Sew for the Dons!

Use your skills to help our community project

3 June 2020

Our Retail Manager Mat Haylock has come up with a great idea to raise more funds for the Dons Local Action Group - by inviting supporters to use their sewing skills!

If you caught the first edition of the 9yrs Podcast’s new ‘Short Corner’ feature on Saturday, you will have heard Mat briefly talking about a project he’s setting up to make our very own face masks. We are calling on anyone living locally who has a sewing machine and the necessary skills to help us make a mountain of masks to sell! All profits will go to the Dons Local Action Group, helping this fantastic community project to continue its great work.

Mat explained: "I’ve been doing my parents’ shopping for them and my Mum has been making masks after watching a YouTube tutorial. As I said on the podcast, I don’t always get the numbers right when ordering products and vastly overestimated the amount of flags we’d sell when we drew Spurs at Wembley in 2018, so we still have a lot left. I had the idea of using the excess flags to make face masks and Mum got busy, using some previously unsold T-shirts as backing material. I was amazed with the results! She used part of a pipe cleaner to make the nose grip and the mask also has a pocket for optional insertion of a filter."

We’d love to hear from you if you can help with our push to make 500 masks. If you think you can help, please e-mail shop@afcwimbledon.co.uk .We’ll drop off everything you need and pick the masks up when they’re ready.
