Rewind: Defiant Dons upset the odds with Kedwell as the hero

As part of our Wimbledon Wonders series, we turn the clock back to 23 September 2010.

The build-up to Wimbledon versus Crawley had focused on Danny Kedwell with our rivals back then having tried to sign the striker just weeks before. In the perfect script for all Dons fans - and on a night when Kingsmeadow was rocking - Kedwell headed home the winner in a 2-1 victory.

It was a real backs-to-the-wall display from a Wimbledon side that included teenagers Ed Harris, Fraser Franks, and Chris Bush in defence, defying a Crawley side managed by Steve Evans that ended the season as Champions.

After the victory, Terry Brown said: “It was the perfect script. For Danny to get the winning goal in front of what is fast becoming the Danny Kedwell End is wonderful, quite brilliant.

“If we would have sold him to Crawley where would we be? Not top of this league let me tell you. It was a magnificent performance with a makeshift teenage defence and I couldn't be prouder.”

Dons supporter @Iain_6 posted the following message on Twitter: "I loved the Hatton and Kedwell goals versus Crawley in the conference. KM was rocking to a level not normally seen."

Of course, Wimbledon would later go onto clinch promotion back to the Football League and the picture above shows Kedwell celebrating his decisive penalty.

Take a look below at the goals from the win against Crawley and extended highlights.
