Glyn’s important message to our fans at this difficult time

#StayAtHomeSaveLives

26 March 2020

Glyn Hodges has stressed the importance of staying at home in the battle against Coronavirus and he has praised the ‘fantastic’ work of NHS staff.

Our manager added that taking notice of government guidelines to stay at home will mean that football – the sport we all love so much – can return quicker to our daily lives.

“I’ve seen some footage of people not taking it all too seriously, but the quicker we act and take notice of the government guidelines, the quicker it will be all over and we will get the football back that we all love. I know that players and staff are often in a bubble in the football world, but there are a lot of things happening that are not nice with people fearful for their jobs and their lives. My advice is to stay in, do what you’ve got to do, and fingers-crossed we come through this in the not-too-distant future and it hasn’t impacted upon too many lives.

“With everyone moving around and spreading this virus, it impacts upon the NHS. The staff in the NHS do a fantastic job, they always do, and it’s about making sure that we do our bit by staying in to make sure their workload is not too high. We have to make sure that we don’t impact upon the work of the key people who are here to help us.”

Glyn praised the efforts of our Dons Local Action Group with supporters combining to make a real difference in the community. Though he had not been able to get along himself, Glyn has donated to the cause and has been doing his bit too.

“I’m too far away to make it out there as I’m up north, but I have donated on the JustGiving page and Robbo has been down to help out. We’ve actually volunteered up here, there’s a local village shop, and me and the girls have volunteered to do the same, to deliver items, and we are on call there. I think it’s great that the community pulls together to make sure we are all okay and we pull through as best as we can.”

All at AFC Wimbledon wish to reiterate the #StayAtHomeSaveLives message.

Keep an eye out on the official website tomorrow for an update from Glyn on how he and the players have been keeping busy during the break from matches.
