Title push maintained with hard-fought away victory

Helen Ogle's late goal seals 4-2 win

10 March 2020

AFC Wimbledon Ladies put pressure on league leaders Ipswich by hitting the goal trail against Enfield on Sunday.

The Dons earned a 4-2 victory in FA Women’s National League Division One South East and that means Kevin Foster’s side are just one point behind pace-setters Ipswich.

A bright start earned the lead for Wimbledon in the opening minutes through Sarah Wentworth, but Enfield restored parity shortly afterwards, before the visitors regained the advantage in the 30th minute when Liz B cut inside and fired home via a post.

Wimbledon continue to have the better of it after the break, but a defensive mix-up resulted in a penalty for Enfield and the hosts scored to make it 2-2.  There was an almost instant riposte though with the visitors earning a 3-2 lead. Rosie Russell twisted and turned smartly to earn an opportunity, before striking home in the 53rd minute. The victory was sealed when Georgia Heasman marched down the left and set-up Helen Ogle, who made no mistake from close-range.

The next game for our ladies is away on Wednesday 18 March at Leyton Orient (Mile End Stadium, 7.45 pm kick-off).
