Anthony still has a part to play in Newport’s promotion push

An update on Wimbledon's young midfielder

Mark Robinson said he has received assurances that Anthony Hartigan will be involved in Newport County’s League 2 promotion bid.

The midfielder has featured six times for the South Wales club since making a loan switch in January, but he hasn’t made a first-team appearance since 6 March. However, Robbo has discussed Anthony’s situation with Newport manager Michael Flynn and he is happy for the 21-year-old to remain there until the end of the season.

“I have been in touch regularly with Anthony and Rob and Bayzo have as well,” said Robbo. “Things haven’t quite gone how he would like there, but we had a long chat and I spoke to the Newport manager. Anthony is going to stick with it and he can still be a big part of what they are doing as they search for promotion. There are a few little reasons why things haven’t worked out, but he’s in good spirits and we are going to make sure we keep in touch with him. The Newport manager says he has every chance of being a part of what they want to achieve at the end of the season.”
