Joe Pigott ‘dug deep’ to conjure up last-gasp magic at Plough Lane last night, but he was quick to share responsibility for the goals conceded against Rochdale.
Speaking straight after the final whistle, our 21-goal top scorer said: “It’s a sigh of relief. It wasn’t good enough with the sloppy goals we gave away from set pieces. Character was what got us the point. I am gutted myself with missing the penalty. Potentially, if I had scored that we could have gone on to get the three points. Luckily, I’ve dug deep and found something, it was a great cross and it was just instinctive. We’ve got to be better.
“With the team we’ve got and the way we’ve been playing we should be well out of this situation, but in the last two games we are going to go as hard as possible. We are tough to play against now. I’m really gutted about the goals conceded, I could have done better with two of them as well, but the character was massive from all the lads.”
Asked about making life difficult in terms of securing League One survival, Pigs said: “I think it’s just part of being a Don really! Things are never straight forward are they? The character always shines through in the end.”
Pigs praised the impact of Jack Rudoni and Ollie Palmer after their goalscoring contributions, plus Ayoub Assal for his assist.
“Rudi is starting to get into the positions that he should get into and it was another great goal after a great cross from Ayoub. He has been fantastic as well considering he has been fasting for Ramadan, so fair play to the kid. Ollie was superb and it’s just great to have him back out there. It helps me so much and then Longy came on and was direct, causing threats.”
