Our Academy Under 18s began their latest Youth Alliance South East campaign with a draw at Cambridge United, which earned praise from both coach James Oliver-Pearce and new captain Ben Mason.
Although the young Dons started the season without several key players and had to dip into the age group below for a goalkeeper just the day before, there was still much to be pleased about as they almost came away with all three points from a meeting which finished two-all.
It was Cambridge who took a very early lead though, in only the first minute of the game, but Wimbledon fought back when Remi Onabanjo equalised in the 27th minute with a great finish. Skipper Mason (pictured) headed a second early in the second half, as the Dons went in front for the first time in the game, but a minute before the end the hosts levelled to deny Wimbledon an opening day victory.
