Red is back with a bang for the launch of a new third kit that captures the bold spirit of Wimbledon FC from over a century ago!
The year is 1919 and ‘The Original Upsetters’ proudly marched out at Plough Lane in a ‘W fronted kit’ with red trim, but the men in suits at the FA were not so impressed – and it was dropped the following season.
Since then, red has been synonymous with success for Wimbledon. It appeared briefly, as trim, at the dawn of the all-conquering Allen Batsford era – the Dons going on to dominate non-league and upset top-flight Burnley in one of the greatest FA Cup shocks.
And red signalled more glory as it returned as our away kit for the remarkable rise through the leagues in the 1980s - worn in the FA Cup winning season - and during the Premier League years.
Now that we are back at Plough Lane, Wimbledon’s football club pays tribute to the men who boldly ran out at our spiritual home in 1919. Our 2021 version is fiery red with the W motif appearing in goji berry and the trim is green bee.
The W is back, the red returns!
How to get the kit that the FA ‘got shirty’ about!
It will be available to purchase exclusively at the Meet the Manager event tomorrow evening from the dedicated sales area in the Conference Suite. Alternatively, it will be available to purchase online or at the club shop from 10.00 am on Friday.
