Robbo: It was a proper men’s performance

Post-match reaction from our Head Coach

Mark Robinson felt that the resilience shown by his players to earn victory at Accrington was a sign of the progress made in recent weeks.

Robbo's boys made light of the terrible conditions on the night to earn all three points in Lancashire and our Head Coach was delighted with the overall display.

“I thought we were outstanding tonight and I’m so chuffed for the players and the fans. In many ways I think it was the best performance since I’ve been in the job. It was the sort of game that before we would have drawn or lost by conceding a soft goal, but we didn’t.

“It was so difficult in the conditions to get the ball down and play, it was virtually impossible, but we did it on a few occasions. We showed great quality for the goals. It was a great touch from Macca, a spin and a good shot, and then good build-up for the second one as well.

“They all stuck to their tasks and I felt that Rudi was outstanding. I don’t really want to single people out because it was a proper men’s performance tonight. That’s what pleased me the most. We’ve talked about how young we are, but tonight we were like men. We dug in, and made really good decisions. It wasn’t a night for football, but we came away with three points that we fully deserved. It showed that we can be resilient and make good decisions to get the points."

In his post-match interview, Robbo was quick to praise the 189 travelling Dons that made the long trip on a Tuesday night.

“They didn’t stop from the first to the last minute," added Robbo. "I said after the FA Cup game that I felt there was something brewing with the fans. They are really understanding how desperate we are to build something special for them. The home end was rocking for the FA Cup game and tonight there were all different songs coming out. We are really starting to feel that they understand how badly we want this for them and tonight they were just phenomenal. I felt quite emotional and I’m just glad that we sent them home with three points.”
