Young Dons go out on loan to Maidstone United

Archie Procter and Jack Currie head for Kent

16 February 2021

Archie Procter and Jack Currie have been given an important opportunity to gain first-team experience after signing for Maidstone United on loan.

The two Dons academy graduates have joined the National League South club for the rest of this season, ahead of the planned resumption of the 2020/21 campaign.

Eighteen-year-old Jack (pictured above), a promising left-back, made his Dons debut as a late substitute in the Papa John's Trophy match at Oxford. Centre-back Archie (pictured below) made his full first-team debut for the Dons in the same match at the Kassam Stadium, the 19-year-old having featured as a substitute earlier in the season against Charlton in the competition.

Interim Manager Mark Robinson, who is also our Loans Manager, said: "Archie and Jack are both very good players, but they are also extremely talented. By 'talented' I mean in terms of character and how they attack their education to improving and wanting to be the best that they can be. There are lots of good footballers, but that talent they possess is rarer. The Covid-19 crisis has restricted their game-time on loan, so this opportunity will further accelerate their development. I would like to thank Michael Hamilton for being proactive in sorting out their loans while I've been Interim Manager. There will be more players going out on loan if the National Leagues continue."

We wish both players every success during their loan spell at Maidstone, a club currently 10th in National League South and where Joe Pigott reignited his career before joining us.
