Glyn Hodges believes that results will start to turn if the players show the same attitude displayed in the last two matches against Crewe and Doncaster.
Wimbledon were defeated 2-0 in South Yorkshire tonight after conceding two first-half goals. Speaking in his interview after the game, Glyn said: “They are having a go, we are setting them up with different formations and we change formations. We have chopped and changed the team a little bit, so maybe we will go with a more settled side. We are trying everything we possibly can. If the players show the same attitude and commitment that they have in the last two games we will be fine. It’s just really difficult at the moment.
“Doncaster give you time on the ball and the second-half showed that. We had a bit more passing and got into good areas. In the first-half we got too strung out, the back three were too far away from the midfield at times, but in the second-half we were able to keep the ball, get up the pitch, and have a bit more sustained pressure. While we got a few balls in the box, hit the post, and Pigs hit one over the bar, we did not cause them that many problems. The boys are trying everything, we are trying everything, and it has to turn soon.”
Our manager added that Doncaster’s counter-attacking style was tough to handle on the night, but he felt that his side didn’t get the rub of the green at times.
“It was disappointing. We did well on Saturday and I put Crewe in the same bracket as Doncaster as they are a similar sort of team, but I think these tonight were a bit better. They caught us on the counter-attack. We got done on the counter from one of our crosses going into the box and they ended up scoring, and they scored through a deflected shot that might have been going wide. While the boys are working as hard as they can, it’s disappointing that they conceded those goals.
"We had a shot that deflected off the post, it dropped down and they cleared it. Their ricochet goes in and ours hit the post and goes to safety. While it is not the whole story, they are things that can’t keep going against you. It’s just that little bit of luck at times.”
