Get your kit on and help us to win the race against 13 London clubs!
We want Dons fans to join our squad for an event called ‘Race the Euros’ – a virtual challenge that will see 14 London football clubs race across Europe. Working in squads of 23, each club will aim to be the fastest to cover the 6,720 miles that separate all of the Euro 2021 host cities. By joining in the fun, you will be raising funds for essential activities at our AFC Wimbledon Foundation.
The event is currently scheduled to begin on the 1st of March and participants can log miles in over 70 different activities, including running, swimming, cycling, football, workouts at home and walking (subject to any government guidelines). We will be monitoring the government guidance on exercise and outdoor activities over the next few weeks and constantly reviewing and adapting the list of approved activities to make sure that the challenge can be completed safely and in line with all legislation.
An online event portal will chart the progress of each squad, and as teams reach a host city information about that location and its footballing history will be unlocked.
Since the Covid pandemic hit, the Foundation has been working tirelessly to ensure there are sufficient provisions in place to support young people most affected by the pandemic. So far, our Foundation staff have provided multisport and education holiday programmes, including food provisions, to over 250 disadvantaged young people. The Foundation are aiming to expand outreach for the February half-term and Easter holidays, while fulfilling government guidance. The Foundation has also been supporting over 30 primary and secondary schools to ensure students who have missed out on key developmental stages are given every opportunity to catch up with their counterparts.
There are many more people in need of the Foundation’s support as the impact of Covid-19 continues to disrupt our communities and our people, affecting both their physical and mental health. This challenge will raise vital funds to keep the momentum of the Foundation’s work going throughout the next few months.
To secure a place in the event, please register your interest by filling in our online form. If you have any questions, e-mail fiona.sutherland@afcwimbledonfoundation.org.uk .
You will need to pay £10 entry fee and commit to raising a minimum of £250 in sponsorship (excluding Gift Aid). You will be able to track your activity on Strava, Fitbit, Garmin etc, and link this up to the challenge website, and there is the opportunity to enter multiple squads of 23 people.
