Pigott and Assal are your end-of-season winners!

Trophy treble for departing striker, while Ayoub pips Rudi for young Dons title

4 June 2021

Joe Pigott signed off his time with the Dons with a treble trophy haul, while teenage Moroccan sensation Ayoub Assal has clinched an end-of-season award by the finest of margins.

We can reveal that Joe has added the Player of the Year and Radio WDON Player of the Year titles to the Junior Dons’ Player of the Year award. “Pigs” ended the season having scored 20 league goals and a total of 54 in his Wimbledon career.

The WDON award, also known as the “Route 66 Banana Receptical of Love”, is voted on by members of our commentary team.  While Joe clinched the Player of the Year title chosen by supporters with 51.26% of the vote, it was a lot closer in the voting for Young Player of the Year!

Ayoub Assal caught the attention of fans at the start of March, with a goal scoring league debut to earn a valuable point at Shrewsbury. After that, he didn’t look back and went on to establish himself in Head Coach Mark Robinson’s starting line-up – in total making 16 appearances and scoring four goals.

Ayoub secured 41.73% of the vote to clinch the Young Player of the Year crown, just edging out fellow Academy product Jack Rudoni on 41.15% - a very close call!

Congratulations to Joe and Ayoub and thanks to all supporters that voted.

Here’s a reminder of the goal scoring form of both Joe Pigott and Ayoub Assal this season.
