What does it take to train with the Dons?

Budding midfielder Ola put through his paces by Robbo's coaching staff

What does it take to be a part of Head Coach Mark Robinson’s squad and train like a professional?

That’s exactly the challenge we set Plough Lane Live Production Assistant and student Ola Babalola, for a recent first team session at our New Malden training base!

The budding midfielder was up for it, having started out in Nigeria and trained with Dagenham United of the Essex League. However, even though he got just a taste of the action, Ola soon found out about the physical demands expected of him by Robbo’s staff!

Ola (pictured centre), was accompanied by cameraman Rob Cornell and they initially met up with First Team Coach Rob Tuvey. He was then tested for Covid19 symptoms by Sports Therapist Katy Bignell, before heading off to Under-23s Physio Matt Flynn to be checked over, before he could take part with members of our first team squad.

From there on, Robbo, Rob Tuvey and Sports Scientist Chris McConnell cast their eyes over our enthusiastic trialist, as he came up against midfielder Ethan Chislett and striker Corie Andrews, teamed up with defenders Terell Thomas and Paul Osew and helped form a defensive line in front of young England goalkeeper Matthew Cox!

Watch Ola’s morning with the first team in full below, via the link to our official YouTube channel. Find out if he had what Robbo requires at the end of another grueling session!
