Ayoub Assal expressed his gratitude to our coaching staff, fans, and the FA after ending a testing week on a real high.
The 19-year-old's first goal since September came after a successful club appeal to the FA for his sending off against Crewe.
“It was a credit to all the hard work that we put in on the training field," said Ayoub. "The staff believe in me and put their trust in me for every game and it’s good to get a goal at Plough Lane. We have to move on, look forward to the next game, and keep grabbing points.
“Thank you to the FA for listening to the evidence provided, proving that I didn’t do it. That meant I could play today, and it was good that I got a fair opportunity, so that I could play my game and enjoy my football."
Ayoub's equaliser yesterday was his first goal in front of our supporters at the Cherry Red Records Stadium - and he treasured the moment.
“When you are an academy boy these are the moments you are aiming for, scoring at Plough Lane in front of our fans – it was an amazing feeling. The fans were great, as usual, and we have to keep putting performances in for them.
“Like Robbo said, it’s just about being patient because what we are trying to do is different. It takes time, it’s a process, but I know the fans believe in us, and we will keep going. I’m keeping a steady course and slowly improving.”
