Building momentum with Plough Lane rocking again!

Anthony Hartigan on last night's important victory

24 November 2021

Anthony Hartigan linked up effectively again in the centre of the park with captain Alex Woodyard last night, but he has welcomed more competition for places.

The return of George Marsh after injury offers another midfield option and Anthony believes the squad is in the right shape to kick on after the victory versus Crewe at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“Me and Woody have played together for a number of games now and we are just building that relationship," said Anthony. "Marshy came on and he was brilliant as well, so there is loads of competition in there.

“It wasn’t the way we wanted to finish the game, but that’s something we need to learn from quickly and build on. The most important thing tonight was the three points. It gives us a bit of momentum heading into Saturday, but we need to tidy up on a few things still.

“We created a lot of chances and on another day we take them. That was the pleasing thing – we created the chances. We had a chat after the game about the last 20 minutes and what we need to do better. It's something we need to work on. Heading towards the Christmas period there are loads of games so we need to pick up as many points as possible."

Our home-grown midfielder is relishing playing in front of big crowds after our return to Wimbledon.

“It was really good to have Plough Lane rocking again. The atmosphere was really good and I massively enjoy playing in front of the fans all of the time anyway. Hopefully, it can be like this more often.

"I felt that there were a lot of positive performances and it’s something for us to build on after the run of results we’ve had. It had been disappointing, and we set higher standards for each other."
