Dons miss out on chance to move up to third

Wimbledon Ladies are stopped in their tracks by Actonians

18 November 2021

A stalemate at the Middlesex Stadium last night meant that our ladies missed out on the chance to leapfrog opponents Actonians into third place.

Currently fifth in FAWNL South East Division One with games in hand on the leaders, Kevin Foster’s side had to settle for a 0-0 draw versus Actonians Ladies.

“It was a tough one with two competitive physical sides giving it their all,” said Kevin. “That’s what you want to see, but the pitch made it that way in terms of being able to play. It was a good game for the neutral.”

After overcoming Millwall Lionesses on Sunday, conditions were less than ideal, but the Dons never really got going in what was a very physical game.

The Dons made a promising start, but lost momentum when Emily Oliver required treatment after a nasty clash of heads, leading to a lengthy stoppage. Our ladies looked at their most dangerous in the final half an hour when substitute Gloria Siber, who recently returned from international duty with Hungary Under-19s, started having success down the left-hand side, helping to create chances. However, our goalkeeper Lauren Allen was the stand-out performer with several key saves and she commanded the area to help ensure the Dons kept back-to-back clean sheets.

There's no rest for the Dons as we are back on the road on Sunday in the FAWNL County Cup, where we travel across London to The Hive to face London Bees.
