Our Wonder Wall

3 September 2021

Our chief executive Joe Palmer provides an exciting update on the rewards for every fan who invested in the Seedrs Crowdfunding Campaign.

There is no doubt in my mind that our new stadium is a statement to the whole of football. A statement that says: this is what fans can achieve, this is what happens when a club is run by the people who matter most. The supporters.

That Plough Lane moved from a dream to a reality is entirely down to those fans whose drive, determination and vision knew no limits. Throughout its history our club has a glorious record of defying the odds - and that's exactly what our fans did, too. They picked up that mantle and ran with it until a site was secured and a stadium was built at the exact place where it was destined to be.

Of course, there were many problems along the way, not least funding and there were difficult moments when we didn't know where the next penny would come from.

That was probably the toughest obstacle of all, but two wonderful initiatives helped see us through: the Plough Lane Bond and the Seedrs crowdfunding campaign.

While the Bond raised a larger sum, for which the words 'thank you' cannot be repeated enough times, it's the crowdfunding I want to talk about now.

This was our mass appeal to fans to dig deep into their own pockets and it raised somewhere in the region of £2.5 million.

To raise so much was a phenomenal achievement - especially when you consider many fans were investing relatively small sums from £10 upwards.

In return, we promised various rewards to everyone who invested, and I'm absolutely delighted to confirm that these are about to be delivered.

One of my favourites was the opportunity for fans to get their names physically stamped on the fabric of Plough Lane so generations to come will always be reminded of who helped bring us home.

I'm therefore thrilled to say an 'investor wall' has now been completed and will be installed this Friday (September 3) in time for Saturday's league game against Oxford United.

You'll find it in the south-west corner of the stadium, near the pub and club shop, and it will display the names of everyone who supported the campaign - whether they invested £10, £100,000 or anything in between!

Everyone will be able to see it, even on non-match days when the stadium is open. There'll also be a digital version for any supporters who can't make it to Plough Lane.

When we launched the Seedrs campaign we also promised that every investor would go into a draw and the winners would win the naming rights to our new stadium for one league game.

The draw has now been made and the lucky winners will be notified very shortly. Each one will have his/her name printed as the stadium name in the matchday programme - and also displayed on LED advertising around the ground and on our social media.

They'll also be presented with a copy of the matchday programme signed by the squad, so keep an eye on our website to see the winners and their allocated game in the coming week.

We are also in the process of producing brick plaques with fans’ names on them. In fact, we have actually bought equipment that will enable us to do this in house.

Plus, limited-edition scarves have now arrived at the club, while pin badges have been sent from our supplier and are on their way to the UK.

Once we have both in stock, we’ll be setting up collection points for investors to pick them up at the Plymouth Argyle and Burton Albion home games - or from the club shop in between those two matches. Collection points and times will be emailed to fans who invested at those levels.

Another reward was the chance to attend an exclusive training session and lunch with the players at Plough Lane. All these winners have now been notified and the session is due to take place in the autumn.

On top of that, an email will go out in the next two weeks to collect details from investors who are entitled to have their names on the stadium steps and the players' tunnel.

The steps will then be produced and installed on the main staircase up to the West Stand in the coming weeks, along with the tunnel plaques.

All the names we need for dressing room plaques have also been collected for production. Later in the season, we’ll arrange for these fans to visit the stadium and have their photo taken at their seat with their chosen player.

Fans who invested between £250-£1000 will be entitled to receive two standard tickets to a league game later this season. We’ll be working with our ticketing providers to add these as credits to fans' accounts to use at games when these become available.

Those investing £1000 or more are also entitled to two/four hospitality tickets in our Silver Lounge - depending on the level of investment. These will be available to use at any league game this season from the Burton Albion game onwards. We’ll be emailing these fans shortly.

I'm just so pleased all this is happening and, like our stadium, becoming a reality. I truly believe that building Plough Lane will go down in our history as the club's greatest achievement and it feels so right that the people who helped make it happen are going to receive the extra rewards their loyalty and devotion so richly deserves.

Finally, I'd like to welcome our next visitors to Plough Lane, Oxford United. Robbo and the lads are buoyed by a strong start to the season and especially the spirit that saw them earn a fabulous point at Ipswich Town.

You could sense an electric atmosphere was building at our opening two home league games against Bolton Wanderers and Gillingham and I'm sure you'll be roaring on the team again this Saturday.

Enjoy the game and stay safe.

Joe
