Stormzy a hit with our brilliant volunteers

9 September 2021

British rap sensation Stormzy was a huge hit with our amazing volunteers yesterday - and an inspiration to all Dons fans everywhere.

The chart topper made an utterly unexpected visit to Tesco in New Malden and headed straight for our Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) food stall.

Volunteers could barely believe their eyes as Stormzy handed over TWO trolleys packed full with tins of groceries  that will go towards providing vital food boxes across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston.

The warm-hearted rapper then thanked all the volunteers for their selfless work in helping fight food poverty.

His inspirational gesture came just after we urged Dons fans to bring tinned food items with them on match days and drop them off at collection points around Plough Lane.

DLAG co-founder Xavier Wiggins said: "It was a lovely surprise to see Stormzy turn up and give us such a generous donation.

"In fact I'd like to urge all our fans to be just like Stormzy by dropping off tinned food items at every home game.

"Every tin we collect makes a huge difference in our fight against food poverty. Stormzy's gesture was so typical of the generosity out there in the community.

"It keeps on coming and enables DLAG to offer such a high level of support locally."
