Return of a special event that recognises our volunteers

The first Volunteers' Away Day for three years

19 April 2022

There was a welcome return on Friday for an event that recognises the unique spirit that helped lift us through the leagues.

Thanks to generous sponsorship by Cherry Red Records, volunteers were treated to a pre-match meal at Crewe’s Mornflake Stadium, free coach travel, and free tickets to the game.

A total of 65 fans were in attendance for the first annual Volunteers' Away Day for three years, the previous event having involved a much shorter trip to Oxford!

Although there were a few minor teething issues with traffic on the route up to Cheshire, our volunteers arrived at the stadium in good time and were treated to a sit-down meal that allowed them the chance to put their feet up prior to the big game.

Whether they have been giving up their time for one, five or even 20 years, every volunteer has played a massive part in helping the club to get to where it is today. It's a unique spirit of team work and camaraderie that has played a big part in our rise.

Tracie Jude-Sleet said: “I’ve always felt that volunteering helps you feel a part of the Womble family. Since volunteering for AFC Wimbledon, I have got to know so many people that I can now call friends. Helping people out is very rewarding."

Barbara Davidson added: “I’ve been selling programmes for 10 years. The best thing about it is being part of a football family. These away days provide that camaraderie and the feeling of being thanked for all of our work this season."

Brian White said: “I started volunteering when we moved into the new stadium, and I have been helping with any labour that has been needed. I love teamwork and Plough Lane just inspires me. It’s an amazing event and it’s better than I could have ever expected."

Thank you to all our loyal volunteers for all the important work that you've carried out in the past year.
