Davison on double before the trouble

New striker opens his account for Wimbledon

Two-goal Josh Davison was only interested in refocusing our efforts in the days leading up to our weekend visit to Crawley, after a disappointing outcome last night.

Things had started brightly for the Dons at Mansfield with our summer signing from Charlton leading the charge by striking a quick-fire brace. However, the hosts fought their way back and matters were made worse following Chris Gunter’s sending-off as Mansfield extended the advantage.

“It’s going to make us stronger for the season,” said the 22-year-old striker after his early double. “Four games in, we’ve learned a lesson. It’s going to hurt and we’re going to have to take that one. We’ve got to talk about it as a team and only learn from it.

“Everyone has put in their all. With ten men, you’ve got to run that extra distance – every single man on the pitch – and everyone has run their socks off. It’s a tough one to take. Coming here though isn’t an easy game either with 11 players – let alone ten. We’ve got another game on the horizon, so it’s a quick turnaround."

“We’ve just got to look to Saturday, do the work we need to do, and try to get three points, so that we put matters right.”

Supporters will be hoping to see much more of our three-pronged attack - Josh linking up effectively alongside Saturday’s double goal scorer Nathan Young-Coombes and Ayoub Assal probing from just behind the front pairing.

“We looked lively as a front three,” said Josh. “We scored in the fourth and sixteenth minutes and everyone was ticking as a front three. It was enjoyable, until obviously what happened, and then the game changed.

“It’s nice to get two goals, especially my first two goals for the club, but it’s bittersweet because we lost. If you don’t come home with the three points it’s not the same.”
