Goalscorer Nathan would have preferred the win

On loan Brentford striker on his first brace for the Dons

Bagging a brace was of secondary importance to Nathan Young-Coombes, who is determined we put things right quickly as a team on the road this week.

Johnnie Jackson’s side head to Mansfield on Tuesday evening, followed by a trip to Crawley next Saturday as the League Two schedule really begins to kick in. Nathan’s first goals for the club yesterday meant little to him though, after visitors Doncaster netted twice in the closing stages to snatch a point.

“I would have preferred not scoring two goals and us winning,” said on loan Brentford striker Nathan. “It feels a wee bit like a loss. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our day.

“The boys are feeling a little bit sorry for ourselves, which is understandable, but we’ll leave that for now, as we’ve got a big game in midweek, so we can go again and show what we can do. That’s what we’ll focus on. We’ve got some real leaders and experienced pros in that dressing room; they’ve been there before and they’ll rally around us young players and strive to get us back up to League One.”

Nathan was also keen to highlight the work of man-of-the-match Ayoub Assal (pictured above), rather than focus on his double that much.

“What a player!” said Nathan. “I’ve been completely surprised about his technical ability. You see how he drives with the ball; I don’t have to say too much as everyone has their own eyes and can see what he does.

“Their keeper made an unbelievable save before my first goal. To be fair, it’s just landed to me and I’ve just prodded it home. I would have preferred Josh (Davison) getting a goal or whatever if that meant we got the three points – it just wasn’t meant to be.

“I couldn’t ask to be a part of a better bunch of boys. With my second goal, it was great play by Ayoub and again – I’ve prodded it home. The boys have started to understand everyone’s movements and everyone’s qualities, and we’ve just got to keep feeding into that.

“You don’t really get a crowd like that in League Two and it showed the support of the family club I keep getting told about. It’s evident every Saturday and Tuesday that we play and you can’t ask for much more.”
