Ryley keeps his foot on the Gas

In-form defender previews Trophy tie

21 December 2022

Ryley Towler has admitted that there is an extra incentive for him to help the Dons past Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday night – with his eyes firmly on a potential tie with Bristol Rovers!

“A lot of my mates support Rovers, so it would be interesting!” explained the on-loan Bristol City centre-back. “We’ve done really well in the league and obviously we know Plymouth are a really good side, but we’re going there to win the game. If we beat them we would then face the Gas, which makes me want to win even more.”

From speaking to Ryley in the lead up to this game, it’s clear to see that confidence is flowing through our young defender – especially after keeping five successive clean sheets in Sky Bet League Two.

The 20-year-old was quick to pay tribute to the men alongside him in our back four when he reflected on how far we’ve come at the midway point of the season.

“Everyone has been brilliant. We’ve got so much confidence right now,” he said. “I have a great relationship with PK (Paul Kalambayi), every day in training we’re working on little things that can improve our partnership. Hus (Huseyin Biler) and JC (Jack Currie) are doing really well too. The aim is to get another clean sheet on Wednesday night.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time here so far. The main thing is that I keep improving and look to learn every day in training. I’ve been playing a lot of games and I’m really enjoying it. The lads give me loads of stick but it’s great to come in everyday and be amongst it!”
